Wooden toothpicks can be surprisingly rough on your teeth and gums. Because they are rigid and pointed, they can accidentally poke or scratch delicate gum tissue. Repeated irritation may lead to soreness, bleeding, or even gum recession over time. In some cases, using too much force can damage dental work like crowns, veneers, or fillings.
